What are they?

Book trailers are advertisements for books. Just as movie trailers build anticipation and excitement for soon-to-be-released movies, book trailers can whet your students' appetites for specific books.

How can I use them to promote reading?

1. Using trailers you have created or downloaded from websites, play them on your computer or LCD projector between classes.
2. Have students analyze successful book trailers (critical thinking at its finest!).
3. Have students compare and contrast several book trailers.
4. Allow students to create them as part of a unit or instead of another book report.

Where can I find them?

Book trailers created for your particular audience will be the most effective, but if you are like most educators, you don't have the time to create new book trailers every few days. Thankfully, you'll find many online. Some are professionally created, while others are student creations.
